OUR STORY

ABOUT US

In 1999, Ksenya Litvak founded Artichoke Art Studio, starting with 2 students. Today the studio is made up of over 120 students.

Ksenya is a professional puppet designer, a set and costume designer, and has been a professional art educator for over 35 years. To learn more about Ksenya, check out her CV and portfolio using the links under her bio below.

Artichoke Art Studio is a place for everyone from ages 2 to 103 to gather, meet friends, and develop their creative muscles. Beyond painting and drawing, we learn sewing, building, felting, making ceramics, and much more.

OUR MISSION

Artichoke Art Studio seeks to nurture a safe community, bringing together artists of all levels.

We aim to help every artist develop as a creative individual, flourish their confidence and curiosity, and learn about life through art.

BEHIND THE NAME

WHY ARTICHOKE?

Artichoke not only starts with the word 'art,' it also represents our community.

Along with its paintbrush-like shape, an artichoke has a heart surrounded by many, many leaves. Like an artichoke, our studio is the beating heart of our community.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

DEVELOPING CREATIVITY

kid painting pink_edited.jpg

Our unique program at Artichoke Art Studio includes developing kids' academic drawing and painting skills, while allowing them to explore their own creativity.

Depending on the age of the student they will choose the technique, medium, or subject matter of the project.

The teacher will instruct them in composition rules, shading techniques, 1- and 2-point perspective, proportional ratios, and other foundational art skills in the context of the choices made by the student.

This includes more traditional works such as paintings and drawings, but also utilizes techniques from engineering and architecture to create 3D works including sculpture, fiber art, masks and puppetry, and multimedia models.

We encourage the students to develop their own creativity over copy-work or strict direction.

The techniques and materials available for exploration at Artichoke Art Studio include (depending on the age and ability of the child):

pencil and charcoal drawing, oil painting, acrylics, watercolors, modeling clay, ceramics, pottery, silk painting, needle felting, sewing, embroidery, mosaics, and resin.

The studio provides professional-grade materials included in the cost of tuition.
